Safety, consent and fair play

Public Lives Game is an adults-only, fade-to-black game with clear consent, lasting blocks, useful reports and no pay-to-win advantages.

No jargon. No assumed knowledge.

These are the questions that can stop a new player in their tracks. If an answer is unclear, that is our problem, not yours.

01Do I need to be online at a particular time?
No. People can answer at different times. A few special events may have a live window, but ordinary work, messages, elections and relationships do not require everybody online together.
02What happens while I am away?
Regular costs, work and city events can move forward. When you return, the results that matter are waiting for you. You are not punished for missing a daily visit.
03How long does a visit need to be?
As short as a few minutes or as long as an evening. One meaningful choice can be a complete visit.
04Can I play if few other people are online?
Yes. Computer-controlled residents called Townsfolk keep basic jobs, shops and elections moving when the city is quiet.
05Are Townsfolk pretending to be real players?
No. Townsfolk are always clearly labelled as computer-controlled residents. The game never presents one as a human player.
06Is voice chat required?
Never. Public Lives Game uses text and images. Calls appear as simple attempted or missed-call cards instead of using a microphone.
07How do I win?
There is no single victory screen. You decide whether success means friendship, a career, a business, music, public service or a mixture.
08Is Public Lives Game pay-to-win?
No. Paying cannot buy a stronger character, a career, public office, extra votes or extra actions.
09Why did my balance change?
Open your bank statement and find the amount. Its description names the wage, rent, purchase, transfer, fine or other choice that caused the change.
10Why is my action still waiting?
Some choices take time or need another person to answer. The result appears when it is ready, and pressing again will not charge you or complete the same choice twice.
11Why can’t I start another large action?
Your character may already be busy with work, travel or another important choice. Read the current activity to see when it ends or whether it can be changed.
12Does a bigger family give me more actions or votes?
Family play is not in the public beta. One account gets one vote and can field one election candidate.
13How explicit are relationships?
Intimate moments are never explicit. Both adults must agree to the specific relationship choice, then the private moment fades to black while only the life or relationship result remains.
14How do I block or report somebody?
Use the block or report control on the relevant person, message or post. Blocking stops contact; reporting records what happened with the nearby context.
15Where does my character live?
Your home page shows the full address. The map shows the block and street around it.
16What happens if I miss rent?
The home page warns you and the problem grows over time rather than removing your home without explanation. Find work, protect your money and respond before more payments are missed.
17Can everybody see my exact home address?
No. The game can use your address for neighbourhood play while public pages show safer street-level information where needed.
18Where do I get my City ID and bank card?
The starting journey guides a new adult through identity and banking. You can return to Northbridge Bank for your account and card details.
19Where do I find a job?
Choose Your Life, open Work & School and visit the Job Centre. Start with a vacancy you already meet, or use odd jobs while you build experience.
20What should I do if I reach $0?
Look for a shift or odd job, pause non-essential spending and check which bill needs attention first. The game is designed to offer a route back instead of ending the character.
21How do I start a business?
Choose Your Life, open Money & Property, then Start Something. Compare the three supported business types and licence cost before naming it.
22What is the difference between SMS, Solano Post, Yap and a Scene?
SMS is a short private conversation. Solano Post is a longer private letter. Yap is a short public post. A Scene is slower shared roleplay tied to a place.
23How do I study or gain a qualification?
You cannot enrol or earn a qualification in the public beta. Choose a Job Centre vacancy whose requirements you already meet.
24How do I become famous?
Begin at The Studio: write or record music, then look for a suitable live performance. Film, television and theatre careers are not in this beta.
25How do I vote?
Visit City Hall while a ballot is open, compare the candidates and cast one private vote for your account.
26Is this guide complete?
The Field Guide covers the public beta and changes with it. Every article is marked Live in beta, Limited in beta or Not in this beta, with the date it was reviewed.
